Custom Menus
Your KBBS automatically generates menus for you. Some menus
are generated according to the caller's status and the level of
permission you have assigned to an area (i.e., the Forum Areas
each can have a permission file called "area.cfg" that controls
who can access each feature.
Before KBBS generates a menu, it checks to see if there is a
custom menu available on your hard drive. If one exists, then
your custom menu will be displayed. A complete list of menu
filenames is included at the end of this document.
To create your own custom menu, you need to have a strictly
text editor. Windows "Notepad," Qedit, or any program that
saves your file in strictly text fashion will work fine. The
Draw is another program the works well, since ASCII as well as
ANSI characters are allowed. ANSI characters are used to
control colors, cursor locations, and can even do animation.
When you create a menu, keep it mind that the caller needs to
know the correct key to hit, or command to be typed, from your
menu. Some keys or commands are options that you can change in
configuration files while others cannot be changed. Remember
that the key or command displayed on your menu must be the
correct one that runs KBBS. Making a custom menu doesn't
change keys or commands at all, just the way the menu looks.
For example, if your main menu says "[Y]ell at Sysop" it is not
going to let anyone page you because the correct key is "P" for
"[P]age the Sysop."
Here is a list of custom menus that you can create which will
over-ride the generated menus:
c:\kissbbs\MAINMENU Main Menu
c:\kissbbs\MAILMENU E-Mail Menu
c:\kissbbs\STATMENU User Statistics Area Menu
c:\kissbbs\LOGOFF [G]oodby (logoff) Message
c:\kissbbs\PRELOG Bottom portion of logon screen
c:\kissbbs\message\MENU Public Message Area Menu
c:\kissbbs\forum\MENU Forum/File Menu
c:\kissbbs\forum\<area>\MENU Forum/File Area Menu
(replace <area> with area directory name)
