  11.                        Custom Menus

  13. Your KBBS automatically generates menus for you.  Some menus
  14. are generated according to the caller's status and the level of
  15. permission you have assigned to an area (i.e., the Forum Areas
  16. each can have a permission file called "area.cfg" that controls
  17. who can access each feature.

  19. Before KBBS generates a menu, it checks to see if there is a
  20. custom menu available on your hard drive.  If one exists, then
  21. your custom menu will be displayed.  A complete list of menu
  22. filenames is included at the end of this document.

  24. To create your own custom menu, you need to have a strictly
  25. text editor.  Windows "Notepad," Qedit, or any program that
  26. saves your file in strictly text fashion will work fine.  The
  27. Draw is another program the works well, since ASCII as well as
  28. ANSI characters are allowed.  ANSI characters are used to
  29. control colors, cursor locations, and can even do animation.

  31. When you create a menu, keep it mind that the caller needs to
  32. know the correct key to hit, or command to be typed, from your
  33. menu.  Some keys or commands are options that you can change in
  34. configuration files while others cannot be changed.  Remember
  35. that the key or command displayed on your menu must be the
  36. correct one that runs KBBS.  Making a custom menu doesn't
  37. change keys or commands at all, just the way the menu looks.
  38. For example, if your main menu says "[Y]ell at Sysop" it is not
  39. going to let anyone page you because the correct key is "P" for
  40. "[P]age the Sysop."

  43. over-ride the generated menus:
